  • Procedures
  • Warm-up (5 minutes)
  • Objectives: To review the vocabulary items about school things, generate students’ interests and lead in the new lesson.
  • Content: Playing the game: “Last Man Standing” or “10 objectives”.
  • Expected outcomes and assessment.
  • Task completed with excellence: Students can join the game and say the words quickly and correctly.
  • Task completed: Students can get the lucky number and say the words.
  • Task uncompleted: Students say the wrong flashcards or pronounce the words incorrectly.

Option 1: "Last man standing " game.
  • Grab a ball and have all the students form a circle.
  • Name a category or theme, such as things found in a kitchen, food, professions, and so on.
  • Begin by tossing the ball to a student. That student will shout a word related to the theme and throw the ball to another student.
  • As each person catches the ball, they need to come up with another word that fits the theme. If they repeat a word that has already been said or can’t think of a new one within a few seconds, they’re out and must sit on the sidelines.

- Follow and do as guided.

Option 2: 10 objectives” game
- Arrange the objects on the desk and let students gather around to look at them.
- After one minute, cover everything with a sheet (or something similar) and send everyone back to their seats.
- Each student should write out as many items as they can remember on a piece of paper.
- When everyone is done, write a list of the items on the board and allow students to self-correct.
Alternatively, you can call out the objects and give a point for each one that is correctly written.

  • Objective: To help students recognize and say the different school subjects.
  • Contents: Listening, pointing, and repeating.
  • Expected outcomes and assessment.
  • Task completed with excellence: Students can identify and read out loud the letters correctly.
  • Task completed: Students can identify and read out loud the letters.
  • Task uncompleted: Students are unable to point and read the correct letters.

  • Arrange the flashcards (school subjects) on the board.
  • Ask the students to listen and pay their attention.
  • Use DCR on Eduhome to play the audio and point to each flashcard.
  • Then play the audio again and have them point to the pictures in their Student’s Books.
  • Play the audio and require them to listen and repeat.
  • Help them with their pronunciation if necessary.
  • Have the class work in pairs. One student randomly points to the pictures in their book, and the other one says the words. Then have them swap roles and continue this activity.
  • Walk around the class and support them if needed.

  • Listen and follow their teacher’s instructions.

  • Point to the pictures in their Student’s Books.
  • Listen and repeat.

  • Work with their partner to complete the task.

  • 2. Play Flashcard Peek.
  • Have one student come to the front of the class.
  • Hold one flashcard facing your body so no one can see it.
  • Very quickly show the flashcard to the student and hide it again.
  • Have the student guess the new word on the flashcard.
  • Repeat with other students and flashcards.

  • Play individually.
  • Follow their teacher’s instructions.

  • Show the flashcard to his/her friend and hide it again.
  • Let his/her friends try to guess the new word.
  • Repeat.


  • Practice & Practice (10 minutes)
  • Objectives: To practice identifying school subjects correctly.
  • Content: Listening and speaking.
  • Expected outcomes and assessment.
  • Task completed with excellence: Students know how to identify school subjects correctly.
  • Task completed: Students can identify school subjects correctly.
  • Task uncompleted: Students fail or make a mistake to identify school subjects.

  • Use DCR to show the useful language and have students look and read the useful language silently.
  • Explain that we often use this to ask and answer about which subject we like.
  • Play the audio and have them practice the useful language.

  • Require them to use the vocabulary from Part A.


  • Go around the class and support them if necessary.

Option 1: Pictionary
- Put the words in a bag.
- Divide the class into 2 teams and draw a line down the middle of the board.
- Ask one member from each team to choose a word from the bag.
- Tell the students to draw the word as a picture on the board and encourage their team to guess the word.
- The first team to shout the correct answer gets a point.
- Do as guided.
- Work in teams.
- Play the game.
  • Option 2: Use DHA on Eduhome
  • Open DHA (Unit 1 – Lesson 1) on Eduhome to help students review the vocabulary through games: Look and find, Listen and find, and Grammar.

  • Follow their teacher’s instructions.
  • Play the game with the whole class.


  • Consolidation and homework assignment (5 minutes)
  • Objectives: To help students remember and pronounce the vocabulary items.
  • Contents: Playing the game “Letter Scramble” and assigning homework in the Workbook.

  • Task completed with excellence: Students can scramble the letters correctly.
  • Task completed: Students are able to scramble the letters.
  • Task uncompleted: Students fail to scramble the letters.

  • Take a list of words that your students have recently learned and write a scrambled version of each on the board.
