Hi Joanne, Did I ever tell you that I’m quite a good skier? But I had a really frightening experience on my last winter holiday. I was skiing in the mountains with a group of friends when, suddenly, the snow behind us started to move. It was making a terrible sound, as if it was a huge railway train coming down the mountain. I was the first to (25) _____, because I had read about what to do in an avalanche (which is what this movement of snow is called). I shouted to my friends to follow me, and we skied to a huge rock. There was room for all of us to hide behind it, and, when the snow (26) _____ the rock, it didn’t move. However, when the avalanche was over, we were in a snow cave behind the rock and had no idea how deep the snow was above us. I was so nervous as we started to dig our way out. It felt as if I had butterflies in my (27) _____. We were digging for at least 10 minutes before we reached the surface. We were all on cloud (28) _____ at that moment because we were safe. | ||||

Hi there! I’ve decided to start writing a blog. My friends say it’s a piece of cake. I just hope I can think of interesting things to say each week and that I’ll get lots of followers! Anyway, for my first post, I want to tell you a little bit about myself. [1] My name’s Mia, and I’m currently 19 years old, living in a small, pretty town that’s always full of life. My life has been quite full, too, but not always in a good way. In fact, it has been like a rollercoaster, filled with ups and downs. At various times, I’ve been anxious, depressed, relieved, and finally grateful, as you will learn. [2] I grew up as an only child on a farm, which meant a lot of adventures on my own in our fields, creating stories about imaginary friends, since there were no real children my age for miles around. I was taught at home until the three of us moved to the town when I was 10, where I immediately joined the drama club. [3] I was just starting high school when my doctor told me that I had a rare illness. It meant spending lots of time in hospitals and missing out on school and drama activities. At the time, it seemed like the end of the world, but the experience taught me a lot about being strong mentally and about how we can overcome problems if we think in a positive way. I’m much better now. [4] Forgetting about all that now, I love spending time outdoors, exploring new hiking trails. Perhaps sometime I’ll share with you the itinerary for my last hike in the mountains. It was awesome! I also love reading – any reading I can get my hands on, really. My current favorite is a mystery novel that I can’t seem to put down! That’s all for this week. I’ll have to start thinking about a topic for my second blog entry. Maybe this is not a piece of cake after all, but I’m sure I’ll get my head around it. |
