Lisa: So, how will you get there?
Tony: It’s too far to walk, so we’ll take the bus. The underground is quicker, but it’s expensive.
Lisa: I know. So, is it a quiz?
Tony: Yes. It’ll take about forty-five minutes for five questions of five subjects – that’s twenty-five questions. There’s a fifteen minute break in the middle.
Lisa: What subject are you hoping for?
Tony: I’m not great at biology! I enjoy physics the most. But I think this competition will have lots of questions on chemistry.
Lisa: Is there a prize?
Tony: Yes. First prize is cinema tickets for everyone in the team. Much better than a box of chocolates. And even if we don’t win, we can all keep our special T-shirts.
Lisa: Cool! Good luck!
Tony: Thanks!
Part 2:
Man: Good morning. South Field Farm. How can I help?
Girl: I’m phoning about your job advertisement in this week’s newspaper.
Man: Yes. We’re looking for a student to be a farm worker during the holidays.
Girl: What are the hours?
Man: You’ll start at six-thirty am and finish at two p.m. There’s a break for lunch at twelve fifteen.
Girl: OK. Are you looking for anything special?
Man: You’ll be working with soft fruit, so it’s important that you’re careful and strong – the boxes get heavy.
Girl: Is the money good?
Man: Our farm workers usually get three hundred and twenty-five pounds a week, but in this job you’ll get three hundred pounds a week.
Girl: Why’s that?
Man: Because lunch is included. But you do have to pay for your bus tickets.
Girl: OK. I’d like the job. What should I do now?
Man: You need to send me your details, including your address and phone number, before the tenth of May. The job starts on the twenty-fourth of May. I’ll let you know next week if we need you.
